I am a 29 year old woman who
is currently working on my Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design
at
St. Xavier College. Yes, it took me until I was 27 to finally
figure out what I wanted to do with my life, and graphic design is
it! Surprisingly, I figured this out through working as an
Administrative Assistant. While I was working on a powerpoint
presentation for one of my bosses, I realized I really enjoyed
working with the graphics and decided that a career in Graphics
Design was worth persuing--so I went to Robert Morris College to
receive my Associates Degree and here I am today (better late than
never)!
I
am now a Customer Service Representative (CSR) for what is now
BP-Amoco Chemical Company (British Petroleum Company mereged
with Amoco Chemical Company in January, 1999). I have been with the
company for nine years and worked my way up from an Administrative
Assistant position, which I held for approximately 5 years. I then
bacame a Wareho
use
Coordinator, which consisted of inventory monitoring at all the
warehouses, terminals, and plants we shipped our chemicals from. That
was a fun job, but it was repetitive and once I learned it, it became
boring. I needed a challenge and that's when I became a CSR.
Being a CSR is a very stressful job, especially since we've merged
companies. It's one of those jobs where you're on the front line
all the
time and are blamed for
everything, whether or not it was your fault. It's also very intense
because there's always some kind of problem popping up that needs
immediate resolution. I've been doing it for 2 years now, and I don't
mind telling you I'm ready for a change. But it has it's good
aspects. Most of my customers and co-workers are great people, and
since the job is so challenging, it's not very repetative (I'm one of
those people who needs to keep my mind working, either through
challenge or learning or I get bored). I also get to talk to people
outside of the company and have travelled to visit my customers and
contacts at the plants I deal with. I've been to Texas and South
Carolina, and I know I wouldn't have gone to either if it wasn't for
this job. The benefits at the company are great, too, and since I'll
be there 10 years in September, 2000, I get four weeks of vacation in
January, 2000--I CAN'T WAIT! All-in-all, it's not that
bad.
In my "spare
time" inbetween school, homework, and work, I love to participate in
sports. My favorites are volleyball, walleyball (volleyball in a
raquetball court), and bowling--I love swimming, too, but that's more
of a seasonal sport for me (we have our own pool at our house and it
gets its use in the summer). I currently play volleyball on a mixed
league and used to play on a women's league, but due to my school
schedule, I do not participate as much as I used to in either league.
I'm also on a mixed bowling league and have a 1
74
average--it's not the highest for women, but it's up there. I also
love to watch hockey...it's a rough sport, but there's nothing like a
great game of hockey! And I have to admit it, although the
Blackhawks have been brutally aweful the last few years, I'm a
die-hard. I also like to workout/exercise, but
that
too has been infrequent since I started school (I used to go to a
health club on lunch during work, but now I mostly do
homework).
Participating in sports is actually an extra caricular activity for me; I mostly enjoy spending time with my family (and my dogs are included in that) and my friends. I am married, have two dogs, one sister and two nieces and one nephew; but you can learn more about my family and friends by linking over to the myfamily page.
I
love music, too--all kinds of music! I know, I know, everyone
says that, but I truly do. When I was gowing up, my Father
loved listening to Polka and Country Music. My Mother loved these as
well, but she also loved Opera and Classical music. (I
have to tell you, as a child one of my punishments if I acted up was
to sit in the middle of the livingroom floor and listen to Opera
music for hours--oh how I hated it then, but I guess it grew on me
somehow because I like it now!) My sister also was into the
Hard-Rock and Heavy Metal--it wasn't uncommon to hear the beats of
Def Leppard, REO Speedwagon and Journey one minute, and
then Metallica and Motely Crue coming out of her bedroom the next. I
myself took to the sounds Dance and Pop, so between all of the tastes
of my family, I am multi-cultural in music!!
